'a dream in the making...'

BLacK and FaWN Gallery

Susie Peterson Bannon, Artist and Owner

08 March 09 - Suffice it to say...a busy three months, and time continues to fly.  Another Holiday Season over...and the promise of a "New" Year...and the concerns of a poor economy.  Here are some of the photos of the past 3 months...representing many great adventures...enjoy...

A Surfboard - Dillon Beach

The Sea - Dillon Beach

03 November 08 - First and repetitive comment...where is time going?  Less than 2 months until Christmas, and Thanksgiving is close...I am looking forward to hosting the "BSK", we will be feasting on lasagna and light beer per the instructions of my lovely son, and sharing the best of company.

Last weekend I went "shooting" with a new friend who curiously enough shares my 'eyes'.  Below is a picture he took of me (I am wearing his hat, trying to keep my hair from curling with the rain), one I took of him, and one of what I am predicting will shortly be a 'World Famous' Cow picture...enjoy!

One final thought from reading USA Today, over a 20 story view of downtown Philly, and eggs benedict with fresh grapefruit juice...

Concentration...His camera is much bigger than mine!

03 October 08 - Time continues to fly by...this week I published my first book, "The Voices of Eastern State Penitentiary", courtesy of iMAC.  I love it!, and will be publishing again...so stay tuned.

I spent the first part of September in New York City, and was there when "Hannah" blew by...talk about rain...warm rain...here is a picture before the rain began...it was really beautiful...followed by a picture of Ground Zero...which still takes ones breath away.

Hannah...brewing, the rain was lovely and warm

Ground Zero-September 2008

I visited Ground Zero on September 10th.  In preparation for the September 11th Ceremony, there was only one tiny place to place your lens and take a picture.  Mostly it was surrounded by chain link fence that was covered with black plastic.  The men working there were wearing protective clothing cover, and masks...still a very somber site/sight.

23 August 08 - Roxane and I went to the California State Fair this week.  I remember now why I only do that every few years or so.  It was not crowded, though the level of noise, and activity was incredible.  I did decide that the Fair is all about the "food"...and the Cowboys...and more "food" and oh..did I mention the Cowboys!  Enjoy!

Cowboy...

TOP of the Cowboy...

The Cup Cake Booth...very pink and pretty!

Charlie's ... can you say Deep Fried Twinkie's?

And finally,  what is the Fair, without the Game Booths....and pugs to boot!

13 August 08 - June and July provided some wonderful traveling!  Santa Fe, New Mexico...what a dream town, simply amazing...Denver, Philadelphia (to visit my son) and Nashville...now back to reality, and some time to work at home.  Below are several photos that I  hope you will enjoy...

Santa Fe - Junk, my favorite subject to photograph...what is it that fascinates me about the variety of colors and texture in "junk?"...

Santa Fe, Saw Blades- used to "cut" rocks

Santa Fe, Doors and Windows, two of my "next" favorite subjects...

Philly Bridge

Eastern State Prison, Philadelphia, one of the most amazing places I have ever seen.  You can "feel" the walls talking...so beautiful, and yet so horrifying....

Eastern State Prison, Philadelphia, cell

Eastern State Prison, toilet in cell, engineered so that prisoners could not "escape" ....

Eastern State Prison,  the ground....

16 June 08 - After month's of hoping....I am pleased to welcome our newest Artist, Michael Hamlin.  Michael is a very talented graphic artist, specializing in Pugs, and other dog breeds.  Read more about Michael and see his collection on the "Graphic Art" page...WELCOME Michael!

14 June 08 - A Northern California Fire in Paradise, California...devastating...it could have been so much worse...the Firefighters, PG&E Staff and Animal Rescue were amazing...Bless them all...

17 May 08 - My daughter and I took a ride to our friend's barn this week.  Wow...do I miss hanging out with the horses.  Many great memories of when she was showing...took some great pictures...enjoy...

                                  Goldhill's Welsh - Eye

                                 Goldhill's Welsh - Tail

                     Goldhill's Welsh - Simply Beautiful.....

                  Goldhill's Welsh - Thinking

Cinco de Mayo! - It has been a busy few weeks...two trips to DC, and a trip to Florida...not much time for painting.  Here is a photo of the new Gaylord National...it really is a beautiful hotel.  I will be seeing more of the East Coast...my perfect son has accepted a job in Philly, and is moving this month...I am so proud of him...and hope the coast to coast separation is do-able...we will see...he is excited, and I am happy for him...Philly here I come....

Here are 2 pictures of the inside hallway by the meeting rooms...I love the flags...they really take your breath away...

23 March 08 - Ahhh, the wonder of vacation...I spent a couple of days in Bodega Bay last week...the weather was perfect, the beach energizing, and I learned/was taught some things about myself that I did not know...I came home with a clean perspective, and focus...I attended a track meet over the weekend with a friend...I "started running" yesterday...and today I "totalled" a mile...1/4 of it running!  I have just finished what I think will be "Water Horse"...watercolor on canvas...and have started another...Life is Good!

6 March 08 -  Today I turn 52...oh my!  My lovely daughter brought me my favorite smoothiebreakfast, and a Champagne cake from Freeport Bakery...YUM!  She also gave me several cards...my favorite being a card of a shirtless guy...asking if I found him "Sexy"...when you open the card, he is holding 4 boxes of shoes!...asking...how about now????  You gotta love Prada!!!

1 March 08 - Now it is March, and I am close to another year older...on paper!  Thank Goodness this is not a "round" number year...I just do not have the stomach for that at this time...and thankfully will not have to deal with that for a while!  Here is my latest Horse, in progress.  His name is "Bad Hair Day!"  and he is "balanced by a "sneeze!"  I am not sure he is done...though I am really enjoying looking at him...only his hairdresser knows for sure!

I think I am finished with "Frank"...who is now "Frank's Winter Coat".  Covering up his "bad yellow" has changed his coat from a "summer coat"...to a "winter coat"...and reminds me of how the lovely Welsh ponies change from warm to cold weather...winter coats are very beautiful...and a little "crazy"...so...I will keep an eye on him for a bit longer...and sign him soon...

29 February 08 - Here is a watercolor I have been working on...it is titled "Complexity", after a "complex" acquaintance.  It was my first try at using Gum Arabic...and I must say, that is some fantastic stuff!  It really makes the paint come alive, and gives it a texture that I have been unable to achieve with water + color.  Gum Arabic could be my new addiction....

18 January 08 - Where is the time going?!  It is already mid January...how did that happen?  Here are updated photos of Jack and Hannah.

I am still working on 'Frank'...he suffered from some 'bad yellow!'  During a nasty storm the beginning of January, my house lost power for 27 hours!  I passed some of that time by 'finishing' Frank.  A word of advice/note to self...do NOT paint without enough light, and having not washed, dried and straightened your hair... what a disaster!  So...one week later, Frank is back to being 'white', as opposed to a nasty pea green!  I will post a photo of him soon...

Jack, December 2007

Hannah, December 2007

14 December 07 - I have been working on a new 'horse'...I am not sure if he is done...he
resembles Cops...but was inspired by Frank (short story)...he is hanging on the wall getting critique from me, friends and family as to this final edits....he should be finished soon and then will need to 'dry'!  He is 'painted' over another horse that I was never happy with..I love his feet!..and looking at him now...I think he needs more 'blue'....

17 November 07 - Took a quick run out to our friends' barn today, home of 'Gold Hills Welsh'...here is a picture of their award winning Welsh Pony, Gayfield's, Call the Cops..Cops for short.  My daughter jumped on for a ride ... and I got to pet and feed carrots!...

Here is Cops beautiful head!  p.s..... do not tell him he has a PINK halter on!!!

16 November 07 - Here is a preview of my "plane, chicken wings, and margarita" Pony.  Still am working on the 'final' touches...I love the butt!

5 November 07 - An interesting question...."what would you do today, if you knew you could not fail" .... one I am pondering carefully....Hannah and Jack never fail to make me smile!

15 October 07 - meet my new kitty, Itty Bitty...she very friendly, and loves being a part of the family...she also loves puggies!  From the moment she entered my home, she was comfortable, like it was hers.  She is a rescue from Divine Feline Purebred Rescue in Reno, Nevada...thank you Darlene...

12 October 07 - Roxane shot roses in the rain today....I cannot wait to see the photos!  I am working on 2 new horse paintings...I drew the horse on the plane home from Phoenix...after a 'dinner' of airport chicken wings and a margarita....!!!

15 July 07- I am exhilarated!!  BLacK aNd FaWN Gallery is up!  I did it!  Good karma this morning...while making coffee I noticed a Golden Retriever on our front lawn.  Looked lost...brought her inside, Jack, Hannah and Febee gave her a welcome.  My plan was to HAVE coffee, and take her for a walk to find her home.  10 minutes later, 2 children come down the block...looking for her...she is HOME!  Her name is Abby.....
